Ironically it is a symbol of states rights to the south during the civil war. Yes North Carolina has a confederate flag on their capital buildings. States Rights makes up half the constitution. This allows whats called “Personal Freedom”. It is the responsibility of the Gay community to change the hearts of the church for the reasons stated above- the good news for that is many churches already have accepted gay marriage. Though I do support gay marriage I only support it within the church, not the government forcing it on churchs. It is because these 2 amendments it was decided Gay Marriage was a state issue, not a federal issue in the first place. So now we have to throw away 2 amendments to the Constitution- because they are basically worthless. If Gay marriage were legal on a federal level, then the federal government must next dictate doctrine to churches. The other half of the Gay marriage is seperation of church and state. This is half the reason why gay marriage has been such a hard struggle. Lobbyist groups on this issue do what they do best, look and exploit legal loop holes- even at the expense of burning the constitution.

However the federal government knows full well they can not make churches do gay wedding ceremonies because of their constitutional right to believe and practice whatever. Some churches are ok with gay marriage, others are not. The government has no authority to dictate to the church- or any religious facility- what they believe teach, or practice. In America you are only allowed to get married via the constitution under the First Amendment (freedom of religion). “Marriage” is not a constitutional right parsé. Let’s start with Gay Marriage I'm just going to put this here. Though I’m sure confederate flag supporters already have an idea where I’m going with this article. This ignorance of the law is the very reason both these topics are even brought up.
I am convinced Americans don’t understand their own government, so perhaps I’m waisting my breathe. Neither of these topics has any place with the federal government to begin with yet here we are. Niether does the federal government have right to tell the church what they can and can’t do. The federal government has no right to tell the states what they can and can not do. What ever your opinion is on either topic frankly I don’t care. Seemingly 2 different things, in truth they are the same thing. The supreme court declares Gay marriage is constitutional. People want the federal government to force southern states to remove the Confederate flag. And yes I’m probably pissing all types of people off by the time I’m done. Admittedly I am a little exhausted with the subject so I’ll make this brief. Its not clear if the two juniors will fight their suspensions. For the past 3 days or so I’ve seen nothing but the confederate flag and the pride flag all over facebook.
You dont expect, like, kids to show up with a Confederate flag on their back, senior Coleman Wooten said. They noted that its one thing to see the flag on a vehicle, but another to see it at school. Students with whom the CBS affiliate spoke also voiced support for the suspension. Theres too many ethnic backgrounds that that could offend. I can see where we wouldnt okay that, said concerned aunt Tiki Scroggins, who was at at school to pick up her nephew. Local residents supported the schools decision, according to KIRO. The officials added that the garb was an undisclosed violation of the Tahoma High dress code.Īt least one of the unidentified, Confederate flag-wearing students wore the controversial symbol around his neck in some fashion. School officials said the Confederate flags caused a disruption because some students were upset. When the two juniors showed up on Tuesday in a common area wearing the Confederate flags as a political statement in response, they were suspended. At Tahoma High School in the nether suburbs of Seattle, its totally okay to display a gay-pride flag, but two juniors were suspended for three days for wearing Confederate flags at school.Īn unnamed school district spokesman said that a sophomore had been exhibiting a gay-pride flag at Tahoma High for the last two weeks, reports local CBS affiliate KIRO.
